National Engineers Week celebrations are conducted in accordance with The National Engineers Week Foundation guidelines, to occur during the week of George Washington’s birthday. George Washington, a land surveyor & our nation’s first president, is regarded as our nation’s first prominent engineer and thus we celebrate National Engineers Week in conjunction with his birthday.

Since 1955, The Engineers’ Council has presented awards honoring engineers and engineering projects at Honors & Awards Banquets, and has arranged for keynote addresses delivered by prominent speakers. Attendance in recent years has ranged from 600-650 people at the Universal City California event, which is the largest National Engineers Week recognition banquet nationwide. In 2011, The Engineers’ Council began supporting a similar event in West Palm Beach, Florida.
