As nearly 500 attendees looked on, the Engineers' Council conferred special recognition awards. Brigadier General Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager was on hand to give the keynote address to the attendees representing The Boeing Company, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, California State University Northridge, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and others. Maj. Gen. Doug Pearson, Commander, Edwards AFB Flight Test Center, recieved the Council's Centennial of Powered Flight Commemorative Award on behalf of Edwards Air Force Base.
